Why Start a Skincare Line

Why Start a Skincare Line

With shelves full of well-known brands and beauty products, you might ask — why start yet another skincare line?

For me, the answer was personal.

I’m Beatrix Förster, the founder of Holiko. And for decades, I searched in vain for cosmetics that would support my sensitive skin — and help manage my children’s eczema. What I found instead were products that offered temporary relief but didn’t support long-term skin health.

So I started making my own.

A Personal Mission Turned Professional

For over 30 years, I’ve been creating natural skincare for personal use. I wanted products that not only soothed, but actually helped the skin stay healthy — especially when it’s fragile, reactive, or chronically inflamed.

As a scientist, I was deeply curious about how the skin works. I began to explore the skin barrier, the immune system, and most of all — the skin microbiome. And what I found changed everything.

Discovering Colostrum’s Power

In 2012, while researching natural alternatives to antibiotics in southern Germany, I discovered the incredible antimicrobial and skin-supporting potential of colostrum — the first milk produced after birth. This powerful, nutrient-rich substance inspired me to integrate colostrum into both my home-made formulations and my research.

My scientific work later continued at University Medical Center Utrecht, where I explored colostrum as a potential solution for antibiotic resistance.

And still, my passion for skincare never stopped. Holiko is the bridge between my science and my skin — a place where research becomes self-care.

Tip: Colostrum is rich in natural antibodies and growth factors — supporting both the microbiome and the skin’s own healing capacity.

From Kitchen Formulas to Holiko

HOLIKO is more than a brand. It’s the realization of a dream — to share the products that helped me and my family with others who may be struggling too.

At HOLIKO, we’re committed to:

  • Gentle, microbiome-supportive skincare

  • Ingredients that work with your skin’s immune system

  • Avoiding fillers, fragrances, and anything unnecessary

  • Supporting people with sensitive, eczema-prone, or reactive skin

Because when your skin is calm, strong, and balanced — you can focus on living, not just managing symptoms.
